Qualification for Championships

Qualification for the Gents' Club, B and C Championships is via the best 2 out of 3 scratch scores over the qualifying competitions being played on 30th May, 7th June and 13th June.  The top 16 scratch scores qualify for the Gents Club Championship, the top 16 scratch scores of players with Handicaps between 10-18 qualify for the Gents B Championship and the top 8 scratch scores of those with Handicaps over 18 qualify for the Gents C Championship.

The best scratch scores from any of the 3 qualifiers competitions go forward to play in the ladies club championship.  8 from silver division and 8 from bronze division.

The knock-out match play stages start on Sunday 21st June, with Finals Day on Saturday 27th June.

The Juniors championship qualifiers have been running over five qualifying events, with the final qualifier on Friday 5th June. Qualification for Category A, B or C depends on having two scoring rounds, with the best two gross scores for each player determining which category they qualify for, in addition to their respective handicaps. The Junior Convenor has discretion to allow qualification based on one qualifying round in exception circumstances - for example this year one of our qualifiers clashed with a junior league match at Gullane. Once the final qualifier has been held, the draw for the three categories will then be made from those qualifiers who are able to play. Depending on numbers, quarter-finals are likely to be held on Monday 22nd June and semi-finals on Wednesday 24th June, with the finals held on Saturday 27th June along with the finals of the men and women's championships.

It is absolutely essential that all players in the match play stages should be available for all rounds, including the final. Anyone who is not available should not allow their names to be entered for first round draws.  Accordingly, the draws for match play stages will be made from the top 16 etc who are available to play in all rounds.  First round draws will be posted in this section on or around 16th June and results of all match play rounds will be posted as soon as possible after each round.

What People Say

In my global search for the best surprises in golf, Glen Golf Club sits near the top of my list. Americans travel to Scotland for the challenge, the scenery, the history and the welcome – it’s a wonder any of us leave the Glen, where they all reside in abundance. It is a golf course that I could play all day, every day. A trip to North Berwick is not complete without a happy climb to the green peaks of the Glen.
Tom Coyne, US golf writer and author of “A Course Called the Kingdom” being published in 2018 and featuring his first visit to the Glen

This beautifully manicured course, with a stunning shoreline clubhouse, is an absolute must for any golfer wishing to golf in East Lothian, Scotland’s Golf Coast.

The Glen is Scotland’s answer to the much heralded Pebble Beach.

Andrew Coltart, former Ryder Cup and European Tour player

The abundance of stunning views on offer at the Glen is worth every penny of the green fee. The fact that it is an incredibly enjoyable golf course to play and in a fantastic condition is a real added bonus.

Gary Nicol, European Tour Coach

Glen North Berwick: a course unlike any other in East Lothian. Play there takes place over a majestic cliff top setting and provides unparalleled views of the natural bird sanctuary Bass Rock which lies just a few miles off the coast

Perhaps the most dramatic short hole in the Home of Golf is the Glen’s 13th. Likened to the 7th at Pebble Beach the ’Sea Hole’graces the cover of popular book ‘The Most Extraordinary Holes in Britain''

If there was a golf course in Scotland that deserved worldwide praise for its entire set-up - and not just the golf course - then this is it ... the Glen is one golf course that every Scottish golfer should make a point of playing at some time in the near future

Often overlooked by visitors is the nearby East Links, better known as The Glen, home to the Glen Golf Club and as welcoming an institution as you will ever come across. Barely a century old, The Glen may lack the seniority of its more famous neighbour, but any comparative youth is more than made up for by buckets full of charm, personality and the genuine Scottish golf experience it bestows on each and every visitor.

Brilliant! It''s an amazing course for £30 during the week - all the holes feel natural ... and the views are incredible. All the greens were in good nick ... the par-3 13th right by the sea is awesome ... ". "I''d be happy to pay double the price to play here". "For someone like me, who doesn''t play too often, this is a great test ...". "It has the feel of a links with tight fairways and quick greens. It is definitely one of the best - and best value - courses in the area.

Ron Jones

I find the Glen a truly exhilarating golf-course to play, with views that are surely unsurpassed anywhere. What has impressed me even more, though, is the warm and friendly welcome I have received from the members in the clubhouse. I look forward so much to my next visit.

Do not listen to anyone who suggests North Berwick West is all North Berwick has to offer. There is also the East Course which not only offers great golfing holes but glorious vistas, especially on a late summer's evening.

Alex Hay, BBC and Sky TV golfing commentator.

... the East Links at North Berwick, home of the Glen Golf Club ... is a delightful links course which enjoys panoramic views and offers a round of spectacular golf ... it is one of the most under-rated and best-value courses in Scottish Golf

Briefly stated, I have never played a more enjoyable 18 holes in Scotland. When not admiring the scenery you''ll find a collection of memorable golf holes, all consistently good, some outstanding.

The Glen Golf Club, North Berwick, has been superbly laid out and during play one will be inspired by the views. This is a magnificent place to be.
Course Consultant and ex-Ryder Cup player John Garner

The course snakes round the edge of a breath-taking coastline offering spectacular views of the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock, one of the world''s largest bird sanctuaries. Its short 13th hole - a blind postage stamp just a hair''s breadth from sand and sea - is widely acknowledged as one of Scotland''s finest. Tip: keep left or your ball is fish food.
