February 2010 course update As the weather has returned to some sort of normaility we have been busy with the bunker construction programme, having lost nearly 3 weeks to the weather there has been plenty to catch up on. The following bunkers have now been completed
6th green right hand side moved out further right 9th green right hand side, made slightly smaller 15th fairway right hand side, rebuilt as before 15th green left, face slighlty higher on the right 18th first of 3 on right rebulit as before 18th second last on right rebuilt as before. 15th left of green
The greens have received their first topdressing of the year, the plan is to do these light dressings as often as possible, we are aiming to get 100 to 120 tonnes of sand on them this year, this sounds a lot more than it is. topdressing is one of the main practices to achieving greens which are firm, true and maintain good pace. We will verti drain the greens for the last time this winter the week starting the 15th of February.
The fairways and walk offs have now all been verti-drained, we started this before Christmas but the weather held us up. Starting on the 22nd of February we will be topdressing the fairways for the first time, this practice will, over a period of time, improve the quality of the surfaces. As you will be aware we purchased an area of land next to the 7th hole which has now been landscaped. We are in the process of starting to re-align the hole to favour a shot more to the right. Until we are cutting fairways on a regular basis it will take time for the changes to become apparent as the grass heights will fluctuate in this area and there will be marking paint present to help us get the definition when cutting. Click here to see how the fairway is to be realigned.
Have you had a chance to play from the forward Blue tee's recently The quality of these has improved considerably in the past year but few people are taking the opportunity to try them. it really is a great alternative to the full course, so why not give it a go ? It's not just for the juniors !
The amount of pitchmarks on the greens at the moment is dissapointing to say the least, please make sure you repair yours and at least one other. Thank you
