Juniors Golfing Strategy - Now and For the Future 
 

Objectives for the juniors

  • Strong membership and playing group

  • All juniors with a handicap

  • Structured coaching sessions

  • Playing for The Glen Junior Team

  • More competitions, friendly matches and fun golf throughout the year

Handicaps

  • Provision for all kids to have one

  • Category A same system (CONGU) as adults, up to 28 or 36.

  • Category B club handicaps up to 54

  • Means everyone can get on the ladder as quickly as possible

  • Once you are able to play the course

  • Hand in three signed cards

  • Can play for handicaps in medals

  • Competitions will cater for all in terms of prizes and reducing handicaps

Competitions

  • Regular medal competitions

  • Boys and girls competing ‘equally’

  • Prizes for both handicap categories

  • Opportunity to play in mixed competitions

  • Opportunity to play in opens

Structured Coaching Sessions

  • Still examining options

  • Want to offer some coaching to all juniors

  • Extra Sessions for Team Players

  • Prefer local arrangements but depends on options available

Playing For The Junior Team

  • Need a handicap

  • Generally selection based on handicap merit

  • However opportunity to play as reserve and in B matches

  • Great opportunity to play other courses

Future competition plans

  • Weather permitting play one medal a month

  • Introduce a short course competition including the new tees

  • Play 11 hole competitions in the dark months

  • Introduce a Team Players Championship open to those who have played for the Team
