PLAYING FOR HANDICAP OUTWITH COMPETITIONS - RULES

Players may play for handicap subject to the following rules

• there must be a minimum of 3 players in the group who are all club members (adult or junior)
• you must notify me in advance (at latest the day before play) who and when you are playing (Email is fine)
• play must be from designated tees for your handicap
• all standard rules of golf and competition play must be observed eg no gimmees
• cards must be completed and handed in (can be left at starters for me) asap after
• there is no scope for changing your mind - course unplayable excepted
• "blowing a gale" pull outs will not be entertained and will be an NR

This policy provides players with the maximum opportunity to reduce their handicap but also maintains the integrity of 'rough with the smooth'. Please respect the rules and good luck. I will be reviewing how it goes regularly. 

PLAYING IN AWAY COMPETITIONS

It is essential that players notify me of any 'away scores' as a result of playing in competitions at other clubs. This is particularly important at this time of year given the number of junior opens etc. Playing with the wrong handicap could result in disqualification etc etc. There is a facility at the club to notify away scores - just ask the starter for a form and I am also happy to receive them via email and if I am around will do an estimate that can be used until the computer is updated. If playing on succesive days and you think your handicap should be cut because your net score is less than Competition Scratch Score for the event you should estimate yourself and\or advise the organiser of the next event before playing.

The basic information required is name of course eg Glen, event eg Junior Open, par for the course eg 70, Standard Scratch Score for the course eg 70 - NB the last two are not always the same and are based on the tees played from and is normally on the card. Also crucially required is the Competition Scratch Score (CSS) for the event  played in which can only ever be calculated after the event and will be available from the event organiser. The player's gross score for the event is required.  Any 'blow up' holes which resulted in more than a net double bogey should also be notified as this reduces the impact on handicap as a result of one or a few bad holes - example scored 9 on a par 4 with a shot awarded would be restricted to a net double bogey 7 for that hole.

I have noticed from the scores on the system that some clubs are notifying results that I am unaware of. This is not to become accepted practice. It is the player's responsibility to notify the club of any away scores and any notification from another club regarded as 'belt and braces'. I look forward to your cooperation on this matter.

An extra medal has been on Sunday 8th August and the entry sheet is now on the board as is the

entry sheet for the Hawes Trophy on 27th August 2010

GLEN JUNIOR OPEN 11 AUGUST 2010

Entry is closing shortly so if you have not entered you need to do so now and no later than 31 July 2010. All players will be notified of their tee-off time by post on Monday 2 August 2010. The draw will also be posted on the website.

COACHING VOUCHERS 2010\11 

Coaching Vouchers are now available for this year from Jim Edgar. All juniors are entitled to two vouchers and Team Players are entitled to a total of six. Vouchers must be used by 31 March 2011.
