...few holes in Scotland can match the 13th, the Sea Hole." Ronan Rafferty
If there was a golf course in Scotland that deserved worldwide praise for its entire set-up - and not just the golf course - then this is it ... the Glen is one golf course that every Scottish golfer should make a point of playing at some time in the near future." Bunkered magazine
... the East Links at North Berwick, home of the Glen Golf Club ... is a delightful links course which enjoys panoramic views and offers a round of spectacular golf ... it is one of the most under-rated and best-value courses in Scottish Golf." Golf Monthly

Winter tee times

Please note that bounce games on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays will start at 12 noon from 2nd February... it must be summer again!

Monthly stableford

It was agreed at the AGM that to allow Glenelg players to maintain their handicaps, the bounce game on the day before the second Tuesday of the month would be cancelled and replaced by a block of tee times at noon on the second Tuesday of the month. This will allow members to enter the club stableford and will give twelve opportunities each year to enter a qualifying competition.

Members using this block of tee times on the second Tuesday of the month MUST enter the club stableford competition.

Seniors Away Day

The annual away day will take place this year on 12 April to Auchterarder Golf Club (between Gleneagles and Crieff). The bus will leave the Glen at 07:30 and we expect to be back at around 19:00. Arrangements may be made to pick up and drop off members in Edinburgh en route.

If you want to take part, please let  Graham Pickin know as soon as possible. Full details are available from Graham who has requested that payment be made by Friday 12 March.

Seniors

The Seniors section of the Glen Golf Club is open to all members aged 50 and over. There are a number of events and competitions arranged especially for senior members. Senior members are not restricted to seniors' events and may enter any club event for which they are qualified.

There is a programme of matches against the Senior sections of local clubs. Players in these matches tend to be those who play in the "bounce" games (see next paragraph), but participation is open to ALL senior members. Anyone who wishes to be considered for selection need only enter their name on the sheet on the Seniors' notice board in the gents' locker room. Sheets are posted two to three weeks before each match. Dates of the matches to be played in 2010 can be found here, and the team selected for each match can be found by clicking on the individual match.

Glenelg (Glen Elderly Leisurely (aka Layabout!) Golfers) is the name given to the group of senior members who meet regularly for the "bounce" games which take place three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (subject to the occasional closure of the course for major events). On the occasion of a bank holiday on a Monday, that day's bounce game is normally (although not always... it's wise to check!) rescheduled for the following day (Tuesday) at the same time. The tee is booked from 12:00 noon to 12:37 (half an hour earlier in the winter), which allows a maximum of 6 groups of 4 players.

Members who wish to take part should be ready for the draw no later than 11:45

Bounce games have become increasingly popular and well attended recently, and members who wish to take part must sign up on the sheet attached to the Seniors' noticeboard in the dressing room. In the event of there being too many players for the available tee times, late comers on the sign up sheet will have to make their own arrangements for play.

To avoid uncertainty about the number who have turned up to play on Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays,
please ensure that your name is on the list prior to the draw being made. Players whose names are not on the list may not be allowed to play.

In any event, all who wish to participate should be present for the draw for partners which will take place no later than 11.50 am (11:20 in the winter).

It should also be noted that participation in the bounce games is restricted to Senior members of Glen Golf Club.
