“...few holes in Scotland can match the 13th, the Sea Hole…” Ronan Rafferty

The Glen - PGA Tour website Course of the Month
"Often overlooked by visitors is the nearby East Links, better known as The Glen, home to the Glen Golf Club and as welcoming an institution as you will ever come across. Barely a century old, The Glen may lack the seniority of its more famous neighbour, but any comparative youth is more than made up for by buckets full of charm, personality and the genuine Scottish golf experience it bestows on each and every visitor."

"Brilliant! It's an amazing course for £30 during the week - all the holes feel natural ... and the views are incredible. All the greens were in good nick ... the par-3 13th right by the sea is awesome ... ".  "I'd be happy to pay double the price to play here". "For someone like me, who doesn't play too often, this is a great test ...". "It has the feel of a links with tight fairways and quick greens. It is definitely one of the best - and best value - courses in the area." 'Under Cover Special Investigation'

"I first played at the Glen when I was commentating for BBC Radio at the Open at Muirfield ... I was well looked after and I loved the course right from the start. Recently, on what was my fourth visit, I also brought my thirteen-year-old son to play. Off a five handicap he has already represented the Welsh Boys, and he could not have had a better introduction to golf in Scotland.

I find the Glen a truly exhilarating golf-course to play, with views that are surely unsurpassed anywhere. What has impressed me even more, though, is the warm and friendly welcome I have received from the members in the clubhouse. I look forward so much to my next visit."  Ron Jones, Senior Commentator, BBC Radio Five Live

"Do not listen to anyone who suggests North Berwick West is all North Berwick has to offer. There is also the East Course which not only offers great golfing holes but glorious vistas, especially on a late summer's evening." Alex Hay, BBC and Sky TV golfing commentator

"... the East Links at North Berwick, home of the Glen Golf Club ... is a delightful links course which enjoys panoramic views and offers a round of spectacular golf  ... it is one of the most under-rated and best-value courses in Scottish Golf."
Golf Monthly
"Briefly stated, I have never played a more enjoyable 18 holes in Scotland. When not admiring the scenery you'll  find a collection of memorable golf holes, all consistently good, some outstanding." Allan McAllister Ferguson, author of Golf in Scotland. (Golf in Scotland is a travel planning guide with profiles of 60 Great Courses including St. Andrew's, Gleneagles, Turnberry and Carnoustie)

"The Glen Golf Club, North Berwick, has been superbly laid out and during play one will be inspired by the views. This is a magnificent place to be." Course Consultant and ex-Ryder Cup player John Garner
"The course snakes round the edge of a breath-taking coastline offering spectacular views of the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock, one of the world's largest bird sanctuaries. Its short 13th hole - a blind postage stamp just a hair's breadth from sand and sea - is widely acknowledged as one of Scotland's finest. Tip: keep left or your ball is fish food."
The Evening Press (York)

"The Glen is one of my favourite seaside courses. The views are stunning and the sound of the sea all the way round is incredibly tranquil. The new greens are already looking as though they will be a tremendous addition to an already spectacular course." Adam Crozier, Chief Executive, the Football Association, 2001-2002, now CEO The Post Office

Ian Brodie took this excellent picture of the Sea Hole during his recent visit at the 'back end' of the season - October to be precise. East Lothian enjoys some terrific weather at this time of year as can be seen by the glorious blue sky.

Thanks to Mark Crump for sending us this great picture of friend 'Rambo' playing back to the 14th fairway after a wayward drive. Mark tells us: "I was just going through my photos and noticed one that I took on your great 14th hole...My friend Rambo's tee shot had rolled down into the thick green stuff beside the beach. I assumed we wouldn't find it, but we did, and off he went with a wedge for what seemed a very difficult shot. I picked up the camera and took a shot of Rambo's great shot back onto the fairway. The shutter clicked at the precise moment that the ball flicked over the hill leaving it clearly visible in flight."

Well done, Rambo, but remember: you were in a lateral water hazard (you didn't ground the club, did you?!) so could have avoided the risk of a broken neck by taking a drop at the top!

"Don't miss this course! You will not find a more scenic course in East Lothian. It is a well-conditioned, testing layout ... a true hidden gem. And the staff could not have treated my group of 8 any better than they did. The entire experience was fantastic!"
Mark Ernest,  United States of America

"Fantastic course!! Played here September 2005. What an incredible course!! We played on a calm day but still this course proved very challenging - (the european pairs championships semi final were playing this day also). The fact that this competition was held here shows that this course does command some respect. The clubhouse was under renovation but the staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The course itself was in a superb condition and the greens were very true. The scenery from every hole provided you with a real view of links golf. I have played Turnberry, St. Andrews and Taymouth Castle in Scotland but would definately return to this course considering the cost. I seriously recommend others to play here - a true gem!" Neil Thompson, England.

"A Beautiful Course. Our group of 10 golfers ranging from 8 to 28 handicappers all found this to be one of the most beautiful courses anyone had played. The course itself was in fantastic condition with outstanding greens. Every hole offered a different challenge and if you had a bad one then you could admire the views over the Firth of Forth. A trip back is already being organised, can't wait." Ian Hogg, England.

"A real gem - not to be missed. I have played this course on our annual golf trip to the area for the last 5 years and for me it is always the highlight of our trip. I am looking forward to April 07 to see and sample the new clubhouse. A real test for any golfer in ay weather conditions" Glenn Binns, United Kingdom.

"Blimey Played the Glen on a very wet and windy day - very tough but very good. Used the 2-fore-1 vouchers and proved fantastic value." Mal Dickenson, United Kingdom

"I visited The Glen Golf Club ... and I must say it was
a very special experience for me... It has always been my dream to visit Scotland, home of golf, and play at some of its typical seaside links... during my first seaside golfing in Scotland, I couldn’t dream it up better – enjoyable company of two Glen GC members, ... course in excellent shape, friendly staff, stunning views of Bass Rock and Law ...  To sum it up the experience was even far better than expected - I just can’t wait to be back!"
Jan Katina, Czech Republic

"As winner of the Scratch Golfer magazine caption competition I just wanted to say how much we all enjoyed our ... rounds of golf at Glen Golf Club ....   My companions and I were made very welcome and to top our stay we had perfect playing conditions, sun, no rain and no wind! Christine Williams

"... thank you for making our experience so enjoyable ... we played two rounds on the course and also enjoyed a fantastic lunch ... . The course itself was spectacular and I have recommended to friends that they should try it out if ever they get the chance ... I'm sure that playing 13 and 14 is as close as I'll ever come to playing Pebble Beach! ... I would have to say that the Glen was my favourite challenge." Kevin O'Connell, Kirkhill, Glasgow

"... from the moment we tee'd off from your 1st tee and from the moment we arrived we were made to feel as though we had been playing there for years. Never before have I received treatment this well from any course I have played ... From the friendly staff in your clubhouse to your Starter we were made to feel welcome ... All the fairways and greens are a tribute to your green-keeping team."
Andrew Wright, Edinburgh

Just to compliment you on the course for our small visit yesterday. Excellent value all round, even allowing for the wind and rain. Even rainbows as per the attached photo looking back down the 18th.

Thanks again.

Geoff Hulley, Capt 2005 Belford Golf Club

I am sorry that it has taken me a little while to say a big thank you for letting me and daddy play on your golf course. We had a great time and the best part of the day was when I parred your most difficult hole - the 13th. I was so excited and so was daddy - I think I played a bit better than him! Thank you very much again.

Mitch - aged 11

"The fact that you came up to me and took a couple of minutes of  your time to ask about our day meant a lot for us and made us feel very welcomed by you and your club.

I can assure you that we will  gladly recommend your very beautiful and challenging course to anyone we meet. For us, it was the perfect course to end our Alpine  Masters on.!
